The façade and roof 4.0
The concept of façade and roof 4.0 refers to the integration of advanced digital technologies, automation, smart materials and the Internet of Things (IoT) into the building envelope. It is the application of the principles of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) in the architecture and construction of facades, turning them into “living” elements, efficient and adaptable. Its key characteristics of façade 4.0, and what we are going to discuss in this session are Intelligence and Adaptability as they are active façades that automatically adjust to environmental conditions (sunlight, temperature, wind) to improve interior comfort and energy efficiency, often described as “dynamic façades”. We must season them with a Connectivity (IoT) where the components of the façade are interconnected and send data in real time, which allows the proactive management of the building that in turn creates a new Sustainability and Energy as they use advanced materials to maximize energy efficiency, acting as the “first energy control” of the building to reduce consumption. But where this session will focus is on Industrialization: many of these facades are manufactured using industrialized processes (2D or 3D modular panels), which improves quality, reduces times and errors on site. Its Digital Design and Fabrication incorporates technologies such as parametric design and BIM (Building Information Modelling) to create complex and customized solutions as easily as serial facades. In short, a 4.0 façade is not just an aesthetic cladding, but an active and connected system that transforms a building’s envelope into an efficient organism capable of interacting with its environment. Let’s learn from the case studies that will be presented…
