Industrializing with wood

Tue 24 Mar | 12:30 - 13:15

Industrialising with wood in the building sector means moving the construction process from the construction site (on-site) to a controlled factory environment. It consists of the mechanized and automated manufacture of structural components or three-dimensional wooden modules, which are then transported to the site for final assembly. This approach combines the sustainability of wood with the advantages of industrial production, transforming traditional construction into an efficient, precise and fast process. Its main implications and characteristics are controlled manufacturing, the elements are manufactured in a factory with high precision, reducing material waste and minimizing the environmental impact on the construction site. Systems such as CLT (Cross-laminated Wood) with large-format panels for walls and slabs, light framing with mechanized timber structures or 3D modules with complete prefabricated sections are mainly used. This method responds to the challenges of the sector such as the shortage of skilled labour, the need to reduce costs and the need to build more sustainably.
