“Becoming” is not only the motto of the UIA 2026 World Congress of Architects in Barcelona, it is a declaration of intent on the role of the architect as an agent of change on a planet in crisis. The 6 Axes of “Becoming” (The Barcelona Manifesto) structure the congress around vectors that respond directly to your previous interests in sustainability and technology: Becoming Liquid: In the face of water stress, architecture must manage water as a circular resource, not as waste. Becoming Circular: How to certify materials so that steel and concrete return to the production cycle will be discussed. Becoming Bio: The integration of nature not as ornament, but as urban infrastructure (nature-based solutions).
