What is Commissooning? The sum of the Manufacturer, the Installer and the Certifier
Commissioning (CX) is a systematic quality assurance process that ensures that a building’s systems (HVAC, lighting, energy, security) perform according to the owner’s needs and design requirements. More than a simple commissioning, commissioning is the integration and synergy of three key actors: the manufacturer, the installer and the certifier (or Cx agent), ensuring that the building is efficient, functional and sustainable from the beginning. The Sum of the Three Actors, their synergy, adds the Manufacturer (with its component warranty), provides the equipment and guarantees that it works under the technical design parameters, and its role is crucial in the initial commissioning (cold commissioning) and in validating that the equipment is ready to operate, the Installer (with its execution guarantee) who executes the assembly, the connection and initial adjustment of the equipment and performs static and pre-functional tests, ensuring that the physical installation complies with the plans and regulations, and the Cx Certifier/Agent (with its Integration guarantee) which is an independent, third party that supervises and verifies the entire process, validating the integration of all systems (for example, that the air conditioning communicates correctly with the building management control) and documents the Compliance with performance objectives. The process is not an end event, but a series of activities that span the life of the project. Commissioning is therefore the technical “glue” that ensures that the design intent becomes an operational reality. Let’s learn how it’s done…
