Two visions, two ways
What is the main difference between Benedetta Tagliabue and Santiago Cirugeda? Does it lie in its scale of intervention and its relationship with the institutionality? While Tagliabue develops a poetic auteur architecture and great public landmarks, Cirugeda practices an urban activism that defies legality to solve immediate social shortcomings. Do you have a different approach and philosophy? Benedetta Tagliabue (EMBT): His work is a continuation and evolution of the legacy of Enric Miralles. It focuses on poetic, tactile and artisanal architecture that seeks dialogue with the historical context and the environment. It is an architecture with a large budget and international recognition. Santiago Cirugeda (Recetas Urbanas): He defines himself as a social architect or urban agitator. Its philosophy is based on self-management, citizen participation and the use of legal strategies (or “alegality”) to intervene in the city quickly and economically. So why do they work together?
