Construction is one of the sectors with the greatest potential in economies at a global level. However, it continues to be one of the industries with the lowest productivity ratios compared to other industrial sectors and the economy in general. Thus, in 1995, productivity in the industry, the construction and the economy, in general, were on par, but the evolution over time has relegated the construction sector to last place with productivity ratios of around 60% compared to the industry, and 70% compared to the economy in general. The construction sector has been slow to join the digital era, so it is one of the least advanced in the adoption of new technologies. And that aspect has a significant impact on its productivity, which lags behind other sectors where advanced analytics and the use of data (‘big data’) have helped to improve its efficiency. Some keys to generate opportunities among building companies arise if the capabilities of advanced analytics are harnessed at different stages of project life. As data analytics is combined with artificial intelligence, machine learning and other digital innovations, sectors as diverse as consumer goods, banking and medicine have experienced reinventions. Let’s reinvent, then, architecture and construction.
