La evolución de la arquitectura sostenible: impacto, bienestar e inclusión
Within the framework of REBUILD, we will present the ten years of the Mapei Award for Sustainable Architecture as a coherent and constant journey towards a more responsible architecture aligned with the environmental and social challenges of the sector. This trajectory is not limited to a succession of editions, but reflects the evolution of the discipline itself and the growing integration of sustainability into the culture of the project. Throughout this decade, the Award has established itself as a space for recognition and reflection on built projects that combine architectural quality, technical rigour and vision of the future. The projects presented have shown how decarbonisation, life cycle analysis, energy efficiency and resource optimisation have gone from being differential elements to becoming structural requirements of the sector. In this evolution, the Special Awards have made it possible to focus on those issues that mark the course of contemporary architecture. This year, the emphasis on Architecture and Accessibility broadens the view towards the social dimension of sustainability, incorporating health, well-being and inclusion as essential criteria of architectural quality. In this way, the Award not only recognises the reduction of environmental impact, but also the ability of projects to generate more understandable, habitable and equitable spaces for all people. A key aspect is the importance of collaboration with GBCe as a Technical Committee. The presence of an independent entity guarantees an objective evaluation process based on verifiable criteria, providing transparency, credibility and technical coherence to the Award. More than an award, the Mapei Award has become a tool to make good practices visible and reinforce a culture of sustainability that understands architecture as a transversal commitment to the planet and to people.
