Industrialized construction with ceramics through strategic collaborations

Wed 25 Mar | 17:35 - 18:00

The contemporary challenge: to industrialize without losing one’s soul. Industrialization seeks speed, repetition and efficiency… can that coexist with the formal and material richness of tradition? We have the opportunity to transform traditional techniques into modern solutions through digitalisation, mechanisation and prefabrication, and we are at a turning point where it is not a question of copying the past, but of reinterpreting it with the means of the present. The benefits of industrializing with ceramics cover the architectural, technical, economic, environmental and cultural point of view, and it is time to collaborate between architects, manufacturers and developers to innovate with roots. The construction sector is evolving towards more industrialized and efficient systems, but we must realize that ceramics, as a traditional material, has enormous potential to adapt to this trend, and we cannot be left behind. In this session, examples of national and international works of avant-garde architecture developed with ceramic systems will be presented. And different industrialised construction systems with brick will be detailed, such as prefabricated panels, dry systems, ceramic ETIS, ceramic fabrics and lattices, showing how these materials are integrated into BIM, digitalisation and prefabrication processes. An inspiration notebook will be presented to demonstrate that brick is not only a traditional material, but is a key component in the industrialized construction of the present and the future, where the limit is set only by the imagination of the designer. Those attending this session will receive a copy of the book “Brick system off-site: New strategies for industrialized architecture” courtesy of MIVAU and Hispalyt.
