Biomaterials: innovative construction with straw aligned with the new RPC and UNE standard

Wed 25 Mar | 13:00 - 14:00

Straw construction is one of the biomaterials with the longest historical history and, at the same time, one of the great unknowns in the sector. Far from the precarious or experimental image, today straw allows solutions that are technically solvent, efficient and fully compatible with industrialization processes. This table proposes a rigorous tour of the real possibilities of straw as a construction material: from its thermal and environmental behaviour, to its regulatory fit, its use in industrialised systems and its potential in low-impact, circular construction models with local resources. Based on built experiences, both in new construction and in collective housing, advantages, limits and challenges will be analysed: costs, durability, fire, on-site management and scalability. A space aimed at architecture and construction professionals who want to go beyond the myth, learn about a material with a great future and understand when, how and why straw can be a viable technical option today.
